Today I've stumbled upon this old page about the GNU project.

The last update has been in 1997, it's nice to see how things are changed in 10 years... For instance:

Linux is a copylefted kernel, which uses GNU, BSD and X software to make a compleat free OS. This or FreeBSD or NetBSD are great OS's to use until the Hurd is stable.

There's also an interesting newspaper article about the impact of reward on motivation (1987).

Problem:
accessing a PostgreSQL database from OpenOffice.org base under Debian.

Solution:
apt-get install unixodbc odbc-postgresql
# odbcinst -i -d -f /usr/share/psqlodbc/odbcinst.ini.template
$ cat /usr/share/doc/odbc-postgresql/examples/odbc.ini.template >> ~/.odbc.ini


1. Set connection parameters in ~/.odbc.ini (username, password, host...)
2. Check "Connect to an existing database" from the oobase Database Wizard, select ODBC, click on "Browse".

At this point your PostgreSQL database should be listed among the available data sources.

I am not ill anymore, after a boring week at home with fever and headaches.
I've got to suggest a movie that I liked a lot, in the name of the father.

Tuesday night is the night of Liquid Art Café, a nice (and cheap) place where I usually drink some Tennent's with friends.
I am quite always happy on tuesday :))

I have to forget my plans of adopting drupal, because I'll be too busy in the near future with uni.
The situation of Drupal in Debian, however, does not seem to be too problematic, a part from a lot of debconf question which could be avoided.

I am happy to see that also this year some italian DDs will partecipate to the webbit, a nice event that will take place in May.

A couple of QA uploads yestarday, and a funny movie,
Saving Grace. The italian translation of the title is "L'erba di Grace", which means "The Grace's grass". I wonder why it's necessary to change the meaning of movie's titles...

The orphaned packages not set to QA Group web page was last updated on Wed Dec 31 and the reason is that the LDAP interface to the BTS is down.
I (incredibly) had some free time yesterday, so I started to write a script that allows to generate a similar page parsing the Work-Needing and Prospective Packages page.

Unfortunately, I discovered that also that page is built through the ldap interface to the bts, so the first version of my script was a little useless.

Yesterday night at about 3 AM I tried to adapt the script to the BTS html output for the wnpp pseudo-package, but master ran out of space again and the BTS didn't work properly...

When master's problems were solved (4 AM) I was really too tired...

Today I finished the script and it seems to work fine. :)


Some days ago I found that drivel is totally broken.
On my system it crashes ungracefully when I try to insert my password :(

Drivel maintainer seems to be unable to reproduce the bug, but the upstream claimed that the bug is fixed in drivel 0.9.2
But I am currently using logjam and I like it.

I am a bit tired because I slept only 4/5 hours last night, but this evening I'll have pizza & beer with some friends, so I've got to stay awake!

Sad but true, this is the last day of my vacation.

I planned to study a bit during these days but holidays were good only for hacking.

I had the time to play a bit with d-i, and I was happy to notice that it's really improved since the last time I tested it: I was able to install sarge on my test machine without problems!

The stranger error was a problem in the output of packages validation.

I found something interesting about this problem: it is 99% debootstrap-related, I'll test it these evening.

Another very cool thing happened during these holidays is the born of Planet Debian.
Scott had really a great idea and convinced me to create a blog. :)
Now I've only got to find a decent picture about myself. This could be the harder thing I've got to do today :P
